Dear Tom,
The Jefa 300 Nm drive unit should be suitable, has enough power.
Pls take a look at the table denoted “Jefa sprocket drive calculation” on their website. You have very close to 1 3/4 turns on the wheel, and the total rudder angle is 70 degrees. This means a sprocket with 15 teeth is recommended on the wheel shaft, but now …

Out of memory the standard autopilot installation had a rotating drive sitting on a cradle under the cockpit floor. If you have a steering system drawing in the ship’s papers it shows the arrangement.
Your description indicates your set up may be slightly different.
Fracmo is still there, and it is suggested you contact them for possible replacement: www.fracmo.com

Is it possible to obtain the leather spreader covers like the originals?
Posted 22/06/2015 by Paul Basson/Foreign Affair:
Hi Andrew,
I have replaced my spreader covers several time, by using a local artisan who supplies leather, amounts the mast and sews them on.
Regards, Paul

As you can see on the “broken sheaves” picture he flanges on the sheaves for the traveller line on the Lewmar traveller car failed. A call to the Lewmar representative in the USA found that Lewmar no longer supports this traveller design with spares or documentation. I was invited to buy and install a new traveller system. Through trial and error, good advice, …

It is suggested that you inspect the upper end of the rudder stock casing closely, as there could also be another reason for the leakage – the lower bearing housing has come loose from the surrounding GRP. In this case the water enters between the steel housing and the GRP laminate around it, and there is a slot visible.
In the photo the …

I assume that you also have the 220v compressor, otherwise why would you keep the original plates.
Unless you are planning to put in a 24v compressor to drive the old plates, I did not think that was an option.
To be honest, I have only used the 220v compressor once since I had the 2 24v systems installed, but its a reassuring backup.
My old system …

The engine was 18 years old with 4000 hours of use.
It was still running well but we would occasionally have a problem, and each time the problems appeared to get more serious and deeper into the engine.
The last problem was a year ago at the Middle Sea Race when we had to replace the fresh water pump, which required removing …
Trumpeter is lying at her berth in Sotogrande and having new teak deck laid on. We have reached the interesting stage – the old teak removed, deck sanded down and all fittings removed. The man who is doing it, single handed, is a veritable artist. He has sawn the teak tree trunk and cut and shaped all the bits of the jigsaw. The thickness is …

As the boat is berthed near a boatyard, we thought we would protect the finished deck by applying a sealant – we were recommended a product known as Teak Wonder. Everything seemed alright for the first two to three months, but we then noticed that the rubber caulking seemed …

The heater should use the same voltage as the outlets. Pls check. If there are shore inlets for both 220 and 110 V there is a transformer for one of them so …

Problem with the custom stainless steel pipe

Possible cause electrolysis.
Lars – Yes, my answer mentions electrolysis as a possible reason, although I referred to this as “some galvanically very active substances”.
Electrolysis is a rather broad term, and can be divided into electrolytic and galvanic corrosion.
The electrolytic variant is caused by a leak in the electrical on board system, appears unlikely here because it would require cabling in the area, and occur …

Posted 08/10/2013: Some years ago I had a lot of trouble with my combination of water pressure system and manual pumps.
